More Places to Get Your Articles Seen

If you own a web site, you probably have written an article or
two for it. One of the best free promotion strategies is to send
your articles to publications looking for articles.

Of course, we all know about ezines that use articles, but that's
just the tip of the iceberg. Many other publications need a
steady supply of articles, too. Most of these options are right
in front of you.

Send your articles to your local newspaper. Many have sections
for reader-written articles. Others can easily convert your
article with good advice into a feature story. Magazines of all
sizes look for articles from freelance writers. In many cases you
will need to contact the editor first and suggest our
article topic.

Pennysavers and shoppers--those free or cheap newspapers that
carry all ads such as Thrifty Nickle or The Recycler--are an easy
way to get your articles in front of the public. Many of these
papers like short articles to break up the endless array of
classified ads.

Trade publications read by those in your own profession can be
very effective. News about your profession is considered
important in these, whereas in a larger publication, it might be
thought of as insignificant.

Work Less, Earn More

Robert T Kiyosaki, author of "Rich Dad, Poor Dad," states that
the rich don't work for money; they have other people work for
their money.

This is invaluable wisdom for anyone who owns or operates a
business.

Too many people are under the impression that, once you own your
own business, your life will be smooth sailing.

However, owning your own business often means adding to your
responsibilities. Sure, you have the choice of whether or not to
do more work, but when more money is at stake, most people choose
to take on more work than they can handle.

But it doesn't have to be that way!

Do as Kiosaki says and have others work for your money.This
doesn't have to mean employing a full time staff.

Solicit as much work as you can and outsource to independent
vendors or freelancers who will do the actual work. Then you can
take a big cut of the money, as you were the one to find the
project.

to find and install a web content management system. This can be
pretty quick and painless for people who are handy with code.

Why Doesn't Pay-Per-Click Advertising Work?

About twice a day I get a note from people saying I'm doing a ton
of advertising with pay-per-click search engines. I get 1,000
people a day to my site and nobody buys. What is wrong with my
site?

Often, NOTHING is wrong with the site. The real problem seems to
be with PPC search engines. While they work magnificently for
some businesses, they work poorly for others.

For some reason nobody has yet explained to me, the masses of
folks who come from PPC's have a 15 to 20 second look around your
site, then leave without buying anything.

There are three solutions to this problem.

1. Instead of going for the order, try to get PPC traffic to sign
up for your newsletter or email updates. People who have never
heard of you before are unlikely to buy. People who have been
reading your newsletter for weeks are much more likely to place
their order.

2. Sell an item or service people buy on impulse. Things that
are cheap and "feel good" have the advantage.

3. Stop spending all your ad budget on PPC's. Spread the money
around a bit. Advertise in ezines, get on mainstream search
engines, send out your own article with your ad at the end.

Work For Yourself

There is a HUGE trend going on in North America right now. The
media is starting to pick up on it, but don't expect them to give
this story the banner headlines it deserves.

Millions of people are starting and successfully working their
own businesses from home. Granted, solo operators have been a
part of the American scene forever, but their numbers have shot
way past 60 million during the past two years.

Income ranges from a good part-time salary to six figures or
more. On average, home workers make more than they ever did in a
regular job.

Back when I started my business in a spare bedroom, my neighbors
couldn't figure out how on earth I was making a living. Now just
about everyone in the neighborhood has their own home business.
Many (myself included) have grown and expanded to an outside
office or work place.

The Internet, fax, and cheap phone rates have made all this far
more do-able than it used to be. Attitudes have also changed.
People no longer tell you to give up your business and get a
"real job."

There is every indication that small self-owned businesses are
not only the wave of the future, but the best thing you can do in
the present. Start small. Do something you like and know,
probably something you learned in jobs you had. Go the library
and read up on everything relating to your new business. Talk
with others who have similar businesses. Try to learn about and
avoid common problems that can hold you back.

should just do an ad exchange as they have a website and a

It might be a very good idea to do ad exchange while your
ezine is still small. This often works best if you keep your
ad to just 2 lines. Ezines don't have as much of a problem
running your ad and you get just as much response. That's a great
way to build your name and subscriber list.

Your best bet will be to participate in some of the advertising
programs your company and area have for realtors. There are
probably some ways to get your listings and name in front of
active prospects and customers. Don't overlook online promotion.

specialize in health and fitness. Ezines are much cheaper,
more effective, and safer than purchasing lists. Search for

How to Get Testimonials

Nothing sells products and services like good comments from past
customers. Prospects believe the word of a customer long before
they'll buy into even the best written ad or most lavish TV
commercial.

But how do you get good testimonials, especially if your business
is new?

1. Nobody says YOU can't provide the testimonial. If you have
personally used the product you are selling and truly believe
it's the best thing since sliced bread--put that in a
testimonial. Put your own words in quotations.

2. Get someone who is a recognized name in your field to say
something good about what you sell. Let them mention their own
interest in the testimonial. This is why blurbs on book covers
go, "Best book I've ever read," Joe Blow, author of How to Get
Rich. Joe lends his good opinion as a way to get a mention for
HIS book.

3. Put up a comments form on your web site. Clearly mention that
some comments may be selected for display on your site or in your
promotional literature. Some people will say good things (which I
sure they mean sincerely) just to get their name in print.

4. Always include the person's first and last name along with the
city they live in or the business they work for. Otherwise,
people will think you made up the testimonial.

search engines. Make sure menopause is the first word

We hear a lot about North America's manufacturing jobs moving to

Find a niche where you can provide help and answers to people
looking for that specific kind of information and assistance.

Study up on that part of your field. Know about the major
problems and how to solve them. Look for the newest solutions
and uncover forgotten fixes that could work again. You'll learn
a lot by visiting your local library, then calling and emailing
other experts not in direct competition with you. In other
words, create your own do-it-yourself education program.

Use your consulting skill to give customers something extra when
they buy your product or service. You'll sell more and customers

Join Hands With Other Businesses

Do you have a list of customers, a newsletter list, or an address
book jammed with people you know? Your business probably sells
several related products or services to your list. But your
customers buy a lot more in life than what you sell. Another
business could offer to provide a different kind of product to
your customers, then share the profits with you.

That's the original and most powerful way to do a joint venture.

Can you break the large words of this new CAM-SPAM law down where
the average bear can know what's going on? I'd appreciate it.
Just from what I can gather from some of the emails I've

Good to hear from you. My understanding (and keep in mind I'm
not a lawyer) is the new national spam law says you have to
give people a legitimate way to get off your list --- no phony
email addresses or unsubscribe links that don't work. It also
says things that have been the law forever...like don't try to
con people or send them pornography they don't want.

I don't see the government going after ezines--most are in
compliance already. Hopefully they will go after the big
spammers who break every rule in the book. That's what this law
seems to be about.

Your best bet is to contact your local cable TV company.
Ask them about purchasing 30 second spots and 30 minute
infomercials. If you want to go regional or national, they
can point you in the right direction. Call the cable company and
ask for their sales department. If they can't help you, they
probably know exactly who can.
