us there has been a big change in the way people browse

In recent years people are surfing far fewer sites, but
spending a lot more time on the sites they visit. You may

one to another, I have a small list of favorites I visit often
and explore extensively.
This may mean you need to design your web site in a
different way. Add more content, more levels, and with
additional detail. If someone wants to spend 20 minutes on
your site, is there enough to keep them busy?
Frankly, this change in how customers use the web can be a
very good thing. It is hard to make a sale when people are
intent on getting to the next site. More time spent on your
site means more of a commitment to buy.
It also means fewer sales abandoned at the shopping cart.

If there is one thing that the Internet, pagers, fax, and cell
phones have done, it has been to force everything in
business toward "better, faster, cheaper."
All these new forms of communication let customers easily
shop with more of your competitors. That means more
variety, bigger selection, and sometimes lower prices and
better service for customers.
It also means a LOT more pressure on businesses to cut
costs and offer better service. In some industries, the trend
is simply unavoidable. Recently, when computer
manufacturers tried to raise the price of computers, the

Marketing a Small Town Business

A lot of people who read these articles live in small towns.
Smaller communities are great places to live, but they often
offer fewer opportunities to earn an income. People in rural
communities have long known their best chance to succeed
can be in owning and operating their own business.
How do you market a small town business (or a
neighborhood business in a city--which works much the
same way)?
Start with the oldest and most effective form of marketing
known. Talk to people. Smile, look them in the eye, and
tell them about your business and how what you sell can
help them. You don't have to do a hard sell, but give people
you know or meet the lowdown on what you've been up to.
In small towns, that kind of local, personal information is as
important as the morning headlines.
Talk to the editor of the nearest newspaper about doing a
feature story on you and your business. Make a point of
noting the interesting or helpful information you can provide
for the article.

7 Ways To Market On The Cheap

Don't Rush Marketing

Marketing works best when it isn't rushed. The best advertising
media require you to place your order well in advance. Great
designers, writers, and (especially!) TV production firms are
usually booked weeks into the future.
Quality. As you can quickly see, you get better quality when you
don't rush your marketing. A top writer can take several weeks

How to Handle Rejection

Part of selling anything is handling rejection. It's always great
when a prospect says "I'm so glad to see you. This is just what I
need!" But the law of averages says most of the people you
come in contact with won't be that enthusiastic.
There are so many ads and people trying to get us to spend
money that most of us put on a stern face any time a sales
person approaches. This doesn't mean we dislike the sales
person, just that we're getting psyched up to hold our ground.
Of course, a good sales person realizes this and works to set our
reservations at ease, helping us to relax and understand how the
sales person may be able to solve our problems.
Keep this in mind when you are selling something. It doesn't
matter if you are selling cars, telling a neighbor about your MLM
opportunity, or using email to sell yourself to a prospective
employer.
Rejection is part of the game. Realize people aren't rejecting
you personally, but the situation. In most cases they simply
aren't ready to buy at this time. No doesn't usually mean no, but
not right now. A week, month, or year from the now the
prospect who rejected your sales pitch may come looking for
you wanting to buy.
