Simple Way to Speak to Groups

Here are three easy ways to structure your short talk so it
gets the job done.

1) Point out a problem and give some solutions. First
explain the problem so people fully understand all its
wrinkles. Then go through several solutions showing the
advantages and disadvantages of each.

2) State your belief, then give proof you are right. "Here's
what I think and let me tell you why." Then lay out your
proof 1,2,3.

3) You can take this clever psychological approach. Get
people excited about your idea at the start. Then point out
what is wrong with the idea. Show things can go sour.

Finally, step people through solutions which turn the
original idea into a good one again.

Make Your Ad Clear and Passionate

I'll tell you something writers don't like to admit. I don't
do much revision. I write it once, then go through and fix
the problems.

But there is one key to effective advertising that absolutely
demands you give your ad copy a second draft.

After you have written your ad or sales letter, set it aside.
Come back to it later in the day, or even better, several days
later.

When you come back, look for places in your copy where
the average customer might not understand what you are
talking about.

For example, in the sentence I just wrote, some people
might not be familiar with the word "copy." Instead, I
might say "look for places in your ad."

Give your copy the grandmother test. If your grandmother
can figure out what you're talking about, chances are most
people can.

Finally, put some passion in your ad. Plain facts rarely
sell anything. Be bold. Be shocking. Put some romance
and flesh and blood in your copy.

There's probably no way to get the ranking of the replicated site
up. Your best bet is to create your own site, then link to your
affiliate site from that. You can get your own domain name for

Usually it's up to the company that owns the trademark to
go after anybody who they feel is using their trademark unfairly.
You can search for registered trademarks at:
http://www.uspto.gov/

Keep in mind most claimed trademarks are not registered. You
can trademark a name just by putting tm next to it.

My question is: what is the best format to sendthese press releases? Are e-mails acceptable? are they lesscredible if in e-mail format?

This worksparticularly well for reaching your local and regional media.Email is the preferred method to receive a release because it'salready in the reporter's computer and it's easy to forward tothe correct person.

Write Powerful Headlines for a Great First Impression

Headlines are the first, and often the most important part ofyour web site, sales letter, classified ad, email, or businesscard. And if your headline is a good one, the rest of your copyis likely to be read.

How do you make sure your headline gets attention?

I like to start a headline with an action word (or verb if youthink back to high school English): EARN 20% more, TAKE time torelax, LOSE weight fast, PROFIT right away. All of these startwith an action word that stresses an enabling change for thereader.

Focus the rest of your headline on how your product or servicewill make your customer FEEL. While most of us like to think wemake a purchase based on logic, studies show emotion plays a bigrole: LOSE WEIGHT FAST and feel sexy again!

Customers feel good when your headline promises to removesomething that is bothering them or add something that will makethem feel wealthier, sexier, more relaxed, or loved.

Here Come the Pragmatists

This week I've been stepping you through Everett Rogers' Technology Adoption Life Cycle. Rogers came up with this pattern back in the 1950s to explain how new products were picked up by the public, grew in popularity, then later faded away.
The Cycle is one of the smartest revelations to hit marketing. You can use it to explain just abouteverything that happens with customers.
The first people who discover and buy your new product or service are techies and visionaries. Techies like what you sell simply because it is new. Visionaries want to get in on the ground floor because of the quick advantage they can get from something new.

Pragmatists want lots of details. They don't want emotion to carry the day. They expect to make up their minds only after reviewing solid evidence that a product or service will make their lives or company work more smoothly.
You can get lots of new pragmatist customers by including plenty of info on your website, mailing a brochure or booklet, or listing lots of well-known people who have bought from you.

There's no one right way to structure web copy, but this simplelayout usually works quite well. Start with a headline thattells the most important thing you can do for customers. Followthat with a couple of paragraphs that tell why the customerneeds your product or service. Follow that with a bulleted listof features. Connect those features with the main benefit eachone brings. Add a testimonial or two from customers or otherswho have good things to say about you. Then tell 'em how toorder.
