Recently a supplier that I have used for a long time wasbought out by another company. Even though the neworganization provides the same service at the same price,I'm disappointed. I'll miss the friendly help the originalowner provided.
Come to think of it, his personality and assistance was themain reason I was his customer. When I talked to severalfriends who also use the service, they said the same things.
This brings up a great point. Customers buy for a lot ofreasons and most of them have nothing to do with thequality or price of your product or service.

I loved your advice in article 35: How to Use TV, Radio,Magazines and Newspapers to Promote your Web Site. My questionis, in choosing a url for print and/or radio promotion, whatformat is best? Should you use something short and quick, like anacronym, or should you spell out the whole name of the company?Also, what works best: phone numbers or urls in traditional mediaads? Should you include both, even if space (print) and time(radio) is limited? Are there case studies on this subjectmatter?

It's a good idea to use the full name of the company. If thecompany name is quite long, use the full name on the firstreference and then the shorter version after that. Media like toget a web site address, a phone number, and an email address theycan reach you at for further information.

What is the difference between a product that succeeds andbecomes a multimillion dollar earner, and a product thatdisappears from existence the same month as its launch? Twothings: value and innovation.
Whether you are creating a new product, or simply choosing whichproducts to sell or distribute, you must understand the waycustomers look at products.
Here are a couple of things to consider when deciding on aproduct to design or sell:
1. What worked in the past will work in the present - If youstudy the breakthrough products of previous years, you willdiscover that, though many of them were happy accidents, most ofthem were strategically planned.
Products that succeed often exploit change, as McDonald's iscurrently attempting to do with healthier menu choices. Thecountry's attitude changed with a rash of lawsuits against fastfood restaurants, so the only thing to do was react to changewith change. Keep in mind the reason Madonna's record sales arestill in the millions: she reinvents herself as the country'smood changes.
Other breakthrough products provide a superior solution to acustomer's problem. Though thousands of products exist to solvecustomer problems, they can always be improved upon. Think ofHuggies pullups or Swiffer cleaning cloths. They were clearimprovements on diapers and mops. Whatever the problem is, asolution usually exists. What you have to do is ask yourself ifit is the best solution.
2. New and Improved, and Worth the Extra Money - Just because aproduct is bigger, better, faster, or more attractive, doesn'tmean customers will pay more for it. Unless they have strongenough reasons to pay more and satisfy their needs, they won't doit.
Focus on creating the greatest perceived value as you develop ormarket a new product or service. Be sure you continually askyourself, "How will this add value to my customers' lives?" Ifyou struggle to come up with an answer to that question, yourproduct or service is bound for extinction.

I have been a art licensing agent for almost 30 years . Havingsemi-retired early I wanted to create a business sellinginformation so I developed a 6 lesson course to artists who wantto license work to manufacturers. This is the selling ofreproduction rights to greetings card print and posterpublishers as well as for other products. Think of MaryEngelbreit, Thomas Kinkade etc.
I tried advertising in art magazines but the meager replies andhigh costs made it unprofitable. I then turned to egroups forartists and whilst I got reasonable responses the conversion rateis still really poor. I ve tried new copy but nothing seems towork.

Good to hear from you. Your own email newsletter would work verywell in this situation. Once or twice a month you could put outa simple email that gives a few tips or discusses an issueconcerning art licensing. No doubt you would eventually have alot of artists on your list and a continuing source of steadysales. Maybe the best way to go about this would be to create afree report that goes for several "lessons." Then send yournewsletter to people who have subscribed to your free report.http://aweber.com has a great system for doing this (I've used itfor years with terrific results).
I think 300 words of copy on your opening page would really helpget people clicking inside your site. Often the problem isn'twith the advertising, but getting folks to stick around and readonce they find you.

I'm starting my first direct mail campaign. I have inkjetmailers which I hope will return to me full. I'm sending themout to lists of environmental agency donors and home businessopportunity buyers. I also want to send some out to new smallbusinesses and Christian schools because it can be a fundraiser.
I don't know if my envelope on the outside is going to say "freeinkjet mailer inside" or if it's going to say "new fundraiseridea" inside. I may also customize the envelope but I don't knowif I wan to say more than that. There will be an insert on theinside that will explain details.
Do you have articles on your web site describing what's good forthese sorts of programs? I'm concerned about how much or howlittle to put on the outside of the envelope and about gettingtoo detailed with my insert.

Your Ad on Plastic Bags

Retail stores of every kind use hundreds, thousands, MILLIONS
of plastic bags. Many use paper bags as well ("plastic or
paper?" are the only words many bag boys get to say.)

Large chains have bags with their logo printed on them, but most
smaller stores have plain generic bags they buy from suppliers.
Find out how you can get your ad printed on those generic bags.

Many small stores may be happy to include your ad on their bag
if you pay for printing and include the store's logo as well.
Consider having your own plastic and paper bags printed, then
offer them to stores at a discount.

In a very short time your ad can be all over town. When I come
home from the store, I often pull out the item and leave the bag

number of people who may see the bag today or in the future.

Good to hear from you. Being careful not to send people to other
sites is a popular theory, but I don't believe in it. Tell
people where they can get what they need and they'll give you
credit for knowing your business, being a source of good advice,
and sharing freely with others. On the Internet nothing is more
important.

These principle works off-line, too. Wal-Mart's policy is if
they don't have what you're looking for, they'll try to suggest
another store that does have it, even though it means you may
leave Wal-Mart to get it. Their experience shows shoppers will
think of Wal-Mart as good people and come back later to buy other
things. Other merchants hear about Wal-Mart recommending them
and start to recommend Wal-Mart in return.
