Getting the Best Business Cards

Business Cards are not just little cardstock rectangles with yourname and contact information. They are a representation of youand your business, and a reminder of who you are and what you do.
But when you settle for a second rate (or third, or fourth, orfifth) business card, you might as well kiss a lot of potentialcustomers and clients goodbye. What happens when you give someoneyour business card, they slip it into their wallet, forget allabout it, and then come across is three weeks later? Well, if youhave a flimsy, poorly designed business card, they probably throwit in the trash. But if you have a classy, high quality card,they will save it and remember you every time they see it.
Of course, there are exceptions. I've had some projects wherea cheap business card was exactly what was needed. It projecteda cost-saving image that backed up our cost-conscious prices.
So before you go home and print your business cards on your homeprinter, think about how those business cards will represent you.You don't want to spoil the good impression you make with abusiness card that doesn't fit your business.

Defining Your Target Customer

Let's say you own a business selling hardcore outdoor sportsequipment. You buy up a ton of airspace on cable channels andmarket like crazy with your commercials. Then you sit back andwait for the customers to come rolling in. A month goes by andall your marketing isn't bringing you any more customers than youhad previously. Why?
Because you failed to define your customers. If you sell hardcoreoutdoor sports equipment, who are your prospective customers?Well, they certainly aren't the type to sit in front of thetelevision all day watching bad cable.
If you throw money at marketing before you've defined yourcustomers, you're wasting that money as surely as if you soakedit with gasoline and tossed in a match.
Get to know everything you possibly can about your customers. Askquestions about who exactly will want to purchase what you offer?How old are they? What is their education level? Marital status?Hobbies? What problems do they have that your product or servicecan solve?
Try to visualize your ideal customer in detail, what he or shethinks, does and wants. If you can't get a clear idea in yourhead of who this person is, research your target market until youcan make decisions like how, where and when to advertise.

When you're first starting out and don't have satisfied customersto provide testimonials, try doing it this way. Get people youknow in your industry to say why they think your service will begood for customers. If you can't get that, get friends to saygood things about you and why they think customers will benefit.Later you can replace those comments with testimonials fromcustomers.

Tips For Telephone Selling

phone number, then have a room of expert telephone sales reps

Why? Telephone selling works. Here are some simple tips that

**Try to go directly to the person who can authorize a purchase

**When you get the decision maker on the line, jump into a
concise statement of the main benefit you can bring her. "We

**Prospects appreciate courtesy. Begin by asking if it is a good
time to talk. If not, ask the prospect when you can call back.
Have several dates and times ready for suggestion.

**Jot down a few notes before making your call, then use your
talking points to keep your pitch on track. Take a few notes
immediately after the call so you can remember exactly what was
said when it comes time to call again.

**Don't wait too long to ask for the sale.

Use YOU

You often hear that the word "FREE" is the most powerful word in
marketing. That is not entirely true. Yes, FREE gets attention,
but there is an even more powerful word that professional
copywriters use non-stop.

Use "YOU." Hokey as it may seem, using "YOU" a lot pulls the
reader into your copy. For example: You can earn big bucks when
you use this strategy.

The goal of most good ad or sales copy is to make the reader,
listener, or viewer feel like you are talking directly to them.
People love to hear about themselves. "YOU" lets people know the
information you are giving them is for their benefit.

Can you use "YOU" too much? One top writer told me not to
worry about it. "People don't seem to notice lots of YOU's in
the copy. It all blends together naturally for them."

Sure enough, look at any well-written bit of sales copy and you
will see "YOU" used over and over again, sometimes several times
in a single sentence.

Color Code Your Print Materials

People often ask me what colors sell best. There are no hard andfast rules about colors in marketing, but here are some thingsthat seem to work again and again.
Yellow gets attention, but is hard on the eyes. Use some yellowin your marketing or on your package, but don't make the wholething yellow.
Red makes your document seem urgent or aggressive.
Many feel green makes prospects think about money. A greenborder with a graphic of a stack of dollars works well forbusiness opportunities.
Blue has a long history among Europe's royalty. Today blue stillworks well to portray power, authority, or prestige.
Pastels are popular for light for feature stories. If you wantyour message to seem fun, use a pastel color. Make sure yourcopy shows up well on the paper.
Many people LOVE purple. For some reason it is a favorite amongchildren and many of us never get over it.

Going to media sites, getting their submission addresses, andemailing your press release is an excellent method. This worksparticularly well for reaching your local and regional media.Email is the preferred method to receive a release because it'salready in the reporter's computer and it's easy to forward tothe correct person.

Call the radio station and ask to talk with someonein the "sales department." Be ready to tell themwhat time of day you want to advertise and what youroverall budget is. The sales person will help you figureout how many ads you can afford, the production of yourcommercial, and the scheduling of your spots. Five Ways to Make Newspaper Ads Sell

Newspapers usually command 80 percent of the ad revenue in anycity. That's because newspaper advertising works.
Here are five ways to make your newspaper ads sell:
1. Put your main benefit in your headline. Ads that try to becute, or get people guessing about what they offer may work forsome, but it's a risky way to go. You'll do better if yourheadline clearly says what you are trying to sell and why peopleshould buy it.
2. Give people a time limit. Make your sale one day only. Put abig expiration date on your coupon. There are a lot of adscompeting with yours. A time limit will encourage people to acton your offer now, rather than someone else's.
3. Use the same logo or look in every ad. People will learn torecognize you without having to read the ad. Even when theydon't have time to review your offer, they will sense yourpresence and remember you another day.
4. Try those tricks newspapers like. They work. Put a borderaround your ad or include an arrow, icon, or bold text to makeyour ad stand out.
5. Show a picture of your product or service in action. Peoplereading the paper look at pictures first, then read the copy.

I am not really sure how the ezine works. I've read somethingabout a newsletter, but how does a one-time ezine work? Who seesit and how does it help in our search engine rankings? I am veryinterested in having one written but I need to fully understandthe concept.

An ezine is an email newsletter (originally it was short forelectronic magazine...but that name didn't stick).
Mostly an ezine is a great way to stay in touch withpeople who have visited your site or contacted you formore information. Often people will be on your ezinelist for weeks, months, even years before they buy something.An ezine can bring you sales week after week for as longas you publish it.
