producers, and ad agencies who will push you to spend more.
Make
sure it really will make your advertising more effective,

3. Buy small ads regularly. That is better than plowing all
your
money into one big ad that runs only now and again.

Years ago I did a radio morning show in Oklahoma City. In
our
search for comedy material, we were blessed with five or six
local merchants who appeared in their own commercials.
None of these people were what you would have thought of as
ready
for prime time. One Chevy dealer was a round man with a speech
impediment. Two brothers with a furniture store were way too
enthusiastic. A woman who owned an electronics outlet was
almost
too short to show up on camera. Husband and wife jewelry
store
owners did their own TV spots with about as much energy as
an
aging hound dog.
All of them had been on the air for years. The furniture
guys
were actually the second generation of their family to flood
TV
with their commercials.
Decades later I spoke with a guy who works in Oklahoma City
media
and discovered all these advertisers were STILL doing their
own
commercials 20 years later.
Moral to the story: Appear in your own commercials. If your
teeth
aren't straight, your hair isn't perfect, and you don't
sound
like an announcer--all the better. Customers respond when people
in commercials look and sound like REAL people. Customers
love it
when they feel like they know the person behind the
business.
