Market With Your Own Music Track

When oldies radio stations want to take their listeners back to
the 1950s and 1960s, they often play commercial jingles from
those eras. Those of us who remember those days can walk through
a grocery store and...from the deep recesses of our
memories...sing 40 year-old jingles to a great many products on
the shelves.

Your own music track--played over and over in your radio
commercials, on your phone hold, on your website, and over
speakers in your store--can be a powerful marketing tool.

In the past businesses have paid from $5,000 to $200,000 to have
professional musicians compose, perform, and record their music
track. These days every city and town of every size has excellent
musicians just waiting for someone to ask them to work. Many have
outstanding digital home recording studios that surpass the
multi-million dollar big label studios of the past.

Bottom line: You can use local musicians to compose and record
your music track for as little as a few hundred dollars.

Ask local music stores and music teachers about capable
musicians. Check with recording studios listed in the phone book
and in entertainment newspapers. Find one or two pieces of music
that sound similar to what you want. This will help musicians
zero in on the sound you are after.

You may want to stipulate in writing that your music was created
as a "work for hire" so that you keep the copyright.

Full-Color Postcards

Postcards are the direct marketer's ace in the hole. They are
cheaper to send than regular letters and people can read them
without having to open an envelope (a HUGE advantage).

Many printing firms who specialize in postcards offer full-color
cards for $100 per 1,000. Full-color cards practically jump out
of the stack of mail at prospects. You know how you reach first
for the full-color postcard of an exotic location sent by a
vacationing relative? Your cards can work with the same attention
getting power.

Many experienced direct mail marketers say full-color postcard
campaigns get them as much as double the response over a sales
letter and at HALF the price.

Try to have your photo or graphic help tease the message on the
back. Use a headline to deliver your main offer. Include a time
limit to increase response. One smart marketer takes photos on
vacations and puts them on postcards for a monthly send to
customers.

Why You Have To Advertise Over and Over

Have you ever run a one time ad and then wondered why you didn't
get much response? Advertising and marketing almost always takes
repeated use to work properly. Once in a while you will get a
product or service that sells with the first ad, but most take
time to sink in with customers.

There's an old newspaperman's joke that dates back more than 100
years that illustrates how ads work.

1. The first time a man looks at an ad, he doesn't see it.
2. The second time, he doesn't notice it.
3. The third time, he is conscious of its existence.
4. The fourth time, he faintly remembers having seen it.

The joke continues on until the sixteenth time has him thinking
he'll buy some day and the twentieth time he sees the ad he
instructs his wife to go out and buy the product.

How to Handle Rejection

Part of selling anything is handling rejection. It's always great
when a prospect says "I'm so glad to see you. This is just what I
need!" But the law of averages says most of the people you come
in contact with won't be that enthusiastic.

There are so many ads and people trying to get us to spend money
that most of us put on a stern face any time a sales person
approaches. This doesn't mean we dislike the sales person, just
that we're getting psyched up to hold our ground.

Of course, a good sales person realizes this and works to set our
reservations at ease, helping us to relax and understand how the
sales person may be able to solve our problems.

Keep this in mind when you are selling something. It doesn't
matter if you are selling cars, telling a neighbor about your MLM
opportunity, or using email to sell yourself to a prospective
employer.

Rejection is part of the game. Realize people aren't rejecting
you personally, but the situation. In most cases they simply
aren't ready to buy at this time. No doesn't usually mean no, but
not right right now. A week, month, or year from the now the
prospect who rejected your sales pitch may come looking for you
wanting to buy.

Offer a Free Seminar

Millions of people crave expert information on every topic you
can imagine. Offer free seminars on a topic you know well and

Your seminar can take many forms. Rent or borrow a large
convention room and publicize your seminar in ads and with free
publicity. Reserve a large table at a favorite restaurant and
invite a limited group to lunch and learn. You can even hold your
seminar on a telephone conference call (I used to have weekly
call that included up to 110 people) or in an Internet chat room.

Keep your seminar commercial free. Provide good information and
how-to tips. You can invite attendees to pick up a "green sheet"
on the way out. It can include more tips, resources, and your
best deals.

Invite attendees to come by your store or office or contact you
via email or phone for more personalized help.

Write a Personal Letter

Personal letters are very powerful. Get a big stack of mail from
the letter carrier and I'll bet you open the hand-addresses
letter from a friend first. We often talk about making web site
copy and newspaper ads carry the power of a letter. Why not
market your business by simply writing a personal letter?

Keep your letter to a single page.

Make paragraphs short. I like three line paragraphs, but five or
six lines per paragraph is also fine. Longer paragraphs make your
copy look dense and a long read to someone who is in a hurry.

Underlining and CAPITALS are good for a sales letter, but keep
them out of your personal letter.

Sign your letter in a different color ink than the color it is
printed in. Include a P.S. Sixty percent of readers read the P.S.
before they read the rest of the letter. Have the P.S. restate
your offer, your time limit, or urge the reader to call or email
you.

Hand address your envelope and use a regular first class stamp.
